So, I am missing Italy and my new home a lot today. When I was there I counted 145 olive trees on my property. I am so excited to learn more about farming olive trees. I don’t know that much but here is what I know so far:
1- Each tree will yield about 3 liters of olive oil. 145 trees x 3 liters is A LOT of olive oil.
2 – In Italy there are places called Frantoio. These are places that you can bring your olives to and they have the machinery to process the olive oil and put it in containers. This way you do not need to buy all the equipment.
3 – Apparently it is commonplace in Italy to hire local farmers to farm your trees and negotiate a deal with them as to how much olive oil you both get to keep.
Ok, this might not seem like a lot but it is a start, and hey you never know maybe I will start my own line of olive oil Stay tuned but be sure to check out stories for a tour of my olive grove.
