Fish and Chips (Italian Style)

Fish and Chips, Italian style is an easy and healthier version of the traditional recipe and it is so delicious.

For this recipe I use my homemade Italian style bread crumbs.  The recipe for it is in my debut cookbook, “My Italian American Table,” and here on my website.  It is a combo of plain bread crumbs, fresh chopped parsley, grated Pecorino, salt, pepper and chopped garlic.  I make it in extremely large batches and keep it in a ziplock in the freezer. I always have it on hand for things like this and even chicken cutlets.  I use it in so many of my recipes. If you don’t want to make them homemade, you can use store bought but see my recipe below for details on how to doctor them up.

Ingredients

(Serves 2)

1 Lb. Flounder

1 lb. Baby Potatoes, peeled and cut in half

½ Cup Olive Oil

1 ¼ Cup Italian Style Bread Crumbs, See my recipe on my website

1 Lemon Zested

Sauce

½ Cup Mayonnaise

1 dash Worcestershire Sauce

1 ½ tsp. Horseradish

1 tsp. Dijon Mustard

½ tsp. Fresh Lemon Juice

Salt and Black pepper to taste

Method

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Put the olive oil in a bowl. Put the Italian style breadcrumbs on a plate and season with the lemon zest.

Please note… I highly recommend that you make the breadcrumbs yourself. You can see the recipe in my cookbook or on this website. Search “Italian style bread crumbs.”  if you use store-bought season with extra grated Pecorino cheese and some fresh parsley.

Dip each piece of flounder in the olive oil, give it a little shake, and then coat in the breadcrumbs. Put it on the parchment paper. Then dip each potato in the olive oil, shake off any excess, and then dredge in the breadcrumbs. Place them next to the flounder in the baking pan. Do this with all of the potatoes.

Bake for about 25 minutes until the potatoes are cooked through as well as the flounder and serve.

For the dipping sauce, in a bowl combine the mayo, worcestershire sauce, horseradish, dijon and lemon juice.  Season with salt and pepper and mix well.

Serve this with the fish and use as a topping.
