Italian Hot Chocolate

Italian Hot Chocolate Serves 4

Hot Chocolate in Italy is much different than in the US. It is a thick, creamy and super-decadent drink.  It is heaven for any chocolate lover. Best of all, it is so easy to make. You might even have all the ingredients on hand. Trust me, once you try this you will never go back to ordinary hot chocolate again.

Ingredients

7 Ounces Dark Chocolate, Chopped

4 Tablespoons Sugar (Optional)

5 Tablespoons Cocoa, Unsweetened and Sifted

2 Cups Plus 2 Tablespoons Whole Milk

1 Teaspoon Cornstarch

Whipped Cream to Serve (Optional)

Method

In a small bowl whisk ½ cup of milk with the cornstarch.

If you want to add sugar to the cocoa, you can. Sometimes dark chocolate can be too bitter and this will sweeten it up. If you decide to add the sugar to the recipe, mix it in a bowl with the cocoa.

In a small pot heat 1½ cups plus 2 tablespoons of milk.

Heat on low/medium (You don’t want the milk to boil.) until it starts to slightly simmer. Whisk in the cornstarch mixture.

Add the cocoa slowly until the milk becomes smooth.

Add the dark chocolate and stir until it is melted and the hot chocolate is thick.

Serve topped with whipped cream.
