HOMEMADE ZEPPOLE (Makes about a dozen)
In the summer there are so many feasts and carnivals. I love going to a nice feast on a warm summer night. I do love the rides, but my favorite is getting a nice bag of fresh hot zeppole with a lot of powdered sugar.
But, I do make these at home with my great grandmother’s super easy recipe with just 5 ingredients. Trust me your whole family will love it. I use self rising flour for this.
For those that don’t know what self rising flour is…it is flour with baking powder and a little salt already added. So it cuts down on the amount of ingredients needed. It works great with this recipe. I even use it in many of my cakes.
Zeppole
Ingredients
2 Cups Self Rising Flour, I use KIng Arthurs
1 Large Egg
1 ⅛ Cup Lukewarm Water
Vegetable Oil for Frying
Powdered Sugar
Method
Heat the vegetable oil in a fryer or large pot to about 350 degrees.
In a bowl combine the flour, egg and water. Combine the batter well. I will be the consistency of a pancake batter.
Gently spoon in about a heaping tablespoon of the batter into the hot oil. I usually can fry 5 at once. Remove the zeppole when golden brown (about 4 minutes) and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Continue frying until the rest of the batter is finished. Put the cooked zeppole in a bowl after they are drained, and sprinkle on powdered sugar. Serve.
