Homemade Onion Dip
3 Cups Onions (About three large onions) sliced thinly
4 Tbsp. Butter
¾ tsp Salt
½ tsp Pepper
4 oz of Cream Cheese- I use Philadelphia at room temperature
½ Cup of Sour Cream
½ Cup plus 2 tbsp. Of Mayonnaise
4 Dashes of Hot Sauce
Potato Chips and Fresh Veggies to serve with
In a pan, melt the butter on a low flame and add the onions. Saute for 10 minutes until the onions become translucent and add the salt and pepper. Cook for another 15 minutes until the onions caramelize and start to brown. Cool.
In the meantime, in a mixer fitted with a paddle attachment combine the cream cheese, sour cream, mayo and hot sauce. Mix well and fold in the onions. Chill for an hour. This will last for about a week in the refrigerator in an airtight container. I like to serve the dip with potato chips and fresh cut veggies.
This dip can be made up to three days in advance.
